Mental Health Resources

Along with my love of animals, mental health is at the heart of my work.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of resources to provide some extra support, education, and community.
You are not alone. Click a link to any website listed and it should take you to that resource.
The National Alliance of Mental Illness (NaMI)
They offer education, community outreach, support groups, advocacy, and the warmline directory mentioned below.
Warmlines you can call to talk to a peer support specialist
https://namiwisconsin.org/resources/talk-to-someone/
The link is specifically for warmlines in Wisconsin, but you can search for warmlines in your state via NAMI.org. (And if you are unfamiliar with what warmlines are, click the link above.)
To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA)
Their “find help” search features a lot of different categories to be able to find something that is a fit for you.
They also have beautiful shirts with messages of hope.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)
They do advocacy work and offer community walks + support groups for anyone who has been affected or lost someone to suicide.
Local mental health support groups
You may be able to find from one of the websites listed above or maybe through community resources like
your local public library bulletin board.
Suicide and Crisis Line that you can call/text 988
It's available anytime of the day or night and need to talk to someone
Calling your health insurance to ask about what
mental health benefits are covered
This is not always the most helpful option, but it can be helpful in finding an in-person mental health provider that’s in-network and knowing if you have some extra benefits you didn't know about.
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
A government website that also has links to resources and you can learn more about substance use and mental health disorders.
